TERRACED TROPICAL GARDEN
This terraced space had a number of issues at the beginning. There was a large patio space extending out two thirds into the garden at the ground level. It then had a sheer drop approximately 2m down to the level by the rear fence. The client want to redesign the space so it was more user friendly whilst improving its privacy.Â
The design involved terracing the plot by removing a vast quantity of the main patio area and lowering it to create a secondary seating area. As the site was very close to the beach, materials that reflected the essence of the coast were used. The stone slabs have a white/grey vein running through them and were used to pick up on the colours of the pebbles on the beach adjacent to the property. The sett used for the detail are blue limestone. This stone has a white vein running through it that picks up on the colours of the main slabs but also when wet matches the deep blue of a stormy sea.Â
The client really like the tropical theme of planting and so this was used throughout. Bamboo and plants such as Fatsia and Cordylines are used to screen the garden from neighbouring windows. At the bottom of the garden a stretch of artificial lawn was installed for the children to play and a Charred Millboard decked area is used as a sun lounging space.
