SUNKEN LAWN GARDEN
This design was influenced heavily by the clients wish to reduce the amount of lawn in the garden. The brief was to create another "room" within the overall existing garden design that linked seamlessly. Large reclaimed brick piers denote the entrances to this garden on which cast iron gates will be hung.
Oversized reclaimed York stone slabs create a path surrounding the lower lawn level. Bespoke bull nosed slabs are installed as steps down to the lawn on each of the four sides. Buxus hedging is used to enclose this path. Using larger plants at the lawn level created an instant mature hedge that matched the height of the hedge at path height. A parapet shaped Yew hedge runs along the South West edge of the space to shelter it from chilling winds that batter the garden.
The planting was to be very simple and clean, using a mixture of white Hydrangeas, Buxus balls, Helleborus and a white multistem Magnolia as the feature tree.
This garden was also installed with remote lighting and a timed irrigation system.
